Google Pixel 2 XL hit with unresponsive edges issue

One user said in the community website that he conducted an experiment to prove that the edges of the Pixel 2 XL screen do not register touches.

Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL smartphones have widely been hailed as an outstanding flagship device based on early reviews. Now Pixel 2 XL owners are citing yet another problem with the device, this time concerning responsiveness near the edges of the smartphone. The original poster noticed that while sliding his finger along the screen's edges worked as expected, his taps along the edges were not always registered.

This is likely caused by Google's software being a little aggressive when it comes to rejecting accidental touches. The team has been investigating, and this will be addressed in a future OTA update.

At this point, a shot from Stoke City's Xherdan Shaqiri was blocked by the back of Corry Evans . We have to put more pressure on them than we did.

The Google Pixel smartphones have been acknowledged by various critics for their lovely OLED displays and highest rated smartphone cameras. A number of reports of differential aging on the Pixel 2 XL's OLED screen will also be taken care of, in the next software update as promised by Google.

For the Pixel 2 XL users who do not use edge gestures, this issue may not have impacted their day to day usage as much. Several users have complained on Google's official forum and some have even documented it in a video.

While it doesn't sound like a particularly serious issue, it could prove annoying. "No transcription of my voice appears, and Assistant doesn't do anything, and eventually goes back to sleep", a Pixel 2 user wrote on the forum. On my own personal Pixel 2 XL, the behavior is very similar, but with instances where taps do end up working as intended.
