Jordy Nelson Defends Packers Medical Staff After Martellus Bennett's Comments

Bennett rips Packers after returning to New England

Brady looked Bennett's way often last season, hitting the veteran tight end for 55 receptions totaling 701 yards and seven touchdowns.

On Instagram, Bennett claimed that the Packers knew of his worsening shoulder injury but tried to get him to continue to play.

It's the next step in a most-unusual journey between the Packers and the player who now is with the New England Patriots and who, as of Sunday morning, was intending on playing despite a reported torn rotator cuff. Criticized the Green Bay medical staff, for which he got a ton of blowback from longtime Packers.

"It's not about, 'Could you play?' It's, 'Should you play?' It was one of those things", Bennett said. He says he told all other teams, including the Patriots, not to claim him on waivers.

Bill Belichick stands alongside Tom Landry in third place on the NFL's career head-coaching wins list, with 270, after the Patriots' rout of the Broncos on Sunday.

"Even then, it wasn't like, 'Hey, you want to come?' It was like, 'Let me just call you back in a few minutes". He did play a full 16 games in 2010, 2011, 2013, 2014 and 2016, and pointed to the team's overall caution when dealing with injuries in his post.

Bennett also said he doesn't know if he'll indeed retire after this season, which he claimed was a possibility during the end of his run with the Packers. "It was like one of those things, I talked to six or seven doctors about it and it could go either way".

"It felt fantastic to get that monkey off my back and start heading in a positive direction", Allen said. "After you get waived, you've got that vengeance in your heart". You're like, 'All right, that's how you're going to do it?

"When Bill called and said they claimed me, I was like, 'No [bleeping] way,'" Bennett said, via Phill Perry of NBC Sports Boston. Last week, he said three of those doctors advised him to get the procedure, which he ultimately informed the Packers that he meant to do.

The Green Bay Packers believe they have a legitimate case for re-claiming a big chunk of Martellus Bennett's signing bonus.

The Packers had high hopes for Martellus Bennett, who signed a 3-year, $21 million contract with the team during the offseason.
