Donald Trump Jr exchanged messages with Wikileaks during election campaign

Donald Trump Jr. worked on his father's 2016 campaign

Those contacts are now under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller.

- March 2016: George Papadopoulos is named one of five foreign policy advisers to the Trump campaign and meets with people associated with the Russian government amid discussions to set up a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

WikiLeaks has denied Russian Federation was the source of the emails it released, including those from John Podesta, Mrs Clinton's campaign chairman.

Yesterday, White House lawyer Ty Cobb declined to comment, referring questions about the exchanges to Trump jnr's lawyer.

- Late April 2016: The Democratic National Committee becomes aware of the scope of the monthslong intrusion into its email systems by hackers whom USA intelligence agencies later linked to the Russian government.

The correspondence continued until at least July of this year. Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort appears to shut down these efforts in an email.

Trump Jr. acknowledged the communications Monday after the Atlantic magazine reported earlier in the day on the messages that had been given to congressional investigators.

According to the messages, Mr Trump Jr did not respond. It then provided an email address and link where the Trump campaign could send the tax returns, and adds, "The same for any other negative stuff (documents, recordings) that you think has a decent chance of coming out".

They even encouraged the President-elect to ask Australia to make WikiLeaks' founder, Julian Assange, ambassador to the US.

U.S. security officials arrive in Israel to discuss Syria agreement
Speaking to a special session of the Knesset on Monday, Netanyahu said he told Washington and Moscow that Israel will act according to its "security needs".

Trump may claim that his son was acting foolishly on his own and that he tweeted without knowledge of his son's communication with WikiLeaks.

Donald Trump's son has released private Twitter messages he exchanged with WikiLeaks in the run-up to the U.S. election.

WikiLeaks sent many more DMs to Trump Jr. over several months. In fact, Trump Jr. reached out to ask WikiLeaks about rumors of a planned release, but there's no indication that he got a response.

Releasing the messages via Twitter himself, Trump Jr sarcastically commented that he had only given a "whopping" three replies to the repeated requests.

- October 7, 2016: Hours after The Washington Post released a video of Trump bragging about grabbing women without their permission, WikiLeaks begins releasing emails from Podesta's private email account. "Strongly suggest your dad tweets this link if he mentions us", the October 12 message read. "What's behind this Wednesday leak I keep reading about?"

- November 2016: Donald Trump wins presidential election.

As The Atlantic points out, USA intelligence agencies believe that the Russian government was using WikiLeaks as a way to disperse hacked information, and in this message WikiLeaks seems to be looking for ways to push back against that perception and to seem less anti-Clinton while. publishing a "vast amount of stuff" on Clinton.

And, in October past year, just before WikiLeaks published emails linked to Mrs Clinton's campaign, asking "What's behind this Wednesday leak I keep reading about?" It is "putintrump." See "About" for who is behind it. To say that there is no evidence of collusion, then, would be one more big lie in a series of big lies the administration has deployed to defend itself in the Russian Federation investigation that threatens to sink this presidency.

- October 2017: Papadopoulos pleads guilty to lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about the nature of his contacts with Russians during the campaign.
