Stalker sets Chennai woman, mother & sister on fire; woman dies

Engineer burnt alive by spurned lover on the doorstep of her home in Chennai

Last night, a 21-year-old Chennai woman was burnt alive at the doorstep of her home by her stalker for rejecting his marriage proposal.

The victims sister and mother suffered severe injuries when they tried to save her, police said, adding the duo is admitted in a hospital in critical condition.

A stalker in Chennai allegedly set on fire a woman, her mother, and sister. According to police the detained was pursuing the deceased, Induja, to accept his friendship for almost a month. He poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.

He had taken along a yellow plastic canister, police said, and first threatened to commit suicide by setting himself ablaze outside the house. Recently when he learnt that the family was looking for a groom for Sinduja, he came to their house in Saraswathi Street on Monday night and picked up a fight.

Upon hearing cries, neighbours rushed to call an ambulance, which they claim arrived after 40 minutes.

The woman, identified as Sindhuja, succumbed to the burns at the Kilpauk Medical College (KMC) Hospital (KMC) on Tuesday morning.

Aakash and Indhuja were classmates at an engineering college they had graduated from.
