The former CEO of Argentine sports communication company Torneos, Burzaco pleaded guilty late past year to various charges of racketeering, money laundering, and fraud. The former chairman of an Argentina-based sports marketing business, one of 14 people indicted in a corruption case that has roiled the soccer world's governing body Federation Internationale de Football Association, returned to USA court on Friday (September 18).

Alejandro Burzaco, the former chief executive officer of sports-marketing company Torneos y Competencias SA, testified that companies he had partnered with, which also included Full Play Argentina and Traffic Group in Brazil, were involved in the bribery.

Alejandro Burzaco said Wednesday that FIFA (FEE'-fuh) executive Julio Grondona took the bribe in exchange for helping to steer the lucrative rights to the two media companies. The statement said Burzaco's company was a subsidiary of Fox Pan American Sports, which at the time was under the control of a private-equity firm.

Fox Sports denied bribing any officials. "Any suggestion that Fox Sports knew of or approved of any bribes is emphatically false..."

Globo said on Tuesday that it "does not practise nor tolerate the payment of bribes", and would cooperate with USA authorities. Mexico's Televisa hasn't commented.

Gian Piero Ventura sacked by Italy after missing World Cup
Ventura had recently signed a contract extension until 2020, but the deal included a break clause if Italy failed to qualify for a tournament.

The three media companies have not been charged in the US case.

Burzaco, the first witness in the trial, painted a damning picture of corruption in South American football, saying millions of dollars in bribes were paid for TV rights to major tournaments.

Argentine former football official Jorge Delhon took his own life on Tuesday just hours after he was accused of taking bribes.

A former Argentine football official has reportedly committed suicide after he was accused of bribe-taking in testimony to a trial of top former Fifa figures in NY.
