James Franco set to play Marvel's Multiple Man

James Franco in talks for ‘X-Men’ spin-off

Franco is in negotiations to join the project which is being developed by Fox's X-Men producer Simon Kinberg with a script by Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg, noted The Hollywood Reporter. Multiple Man has also appeared in the adventures of the Fantastic Four. He is a mutant who has the ability to create "dupes" - ideal replicas of himself - and absorb them back into himself, gaining their memories, knowledge and skills. Franco and Kinberg have been developing Fox's "The Hardy Men" as a potential starring vehicle for both James and Dave Franco, who would portray the grown-up versions of The Hardy Boys.

This is the latest film announced in the X-Men universe.

X-Men spinoffs featuring Deadpool and Wolverine (aka Logan) have proven to be a hot ticket for audiences and now another Marvel Comics mutant is on his way to getting a solo movie. Should the film move forward, it will be Franco's first time acting in the superhero world since he played Harry Osborn in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy. The film would be part of 20th Century Fox's X-Men universe, which also includes the Deadpool movies, along with the upcoming New Mutants, X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and Gambit. "Who the heck is 'Multiple Man?'" tweeted one fan. While Jamie was originally a minor character, his story was better established in Peter David's X-Factor run from the 1990s, which incorporated many lesser known heroes from the larger X-Men mythos. It remains to be seen where Multiple Man might fall in this schedule.
