China conducted the world's first head transplant

Controversial surgeon says human head transplant ‘imminent

The world's first human head transplant has been carried out on a corpse in China, according to an Italian Professor Sergio Canavero. It was done on corpses to see if surgeons could reconnect the spine, nerves and blood vessels.

Dr. Sergio Canavero said the procedure would take place in China because the USA and Europe would not allow it.

After announcing the feat, which theoretically has the potential to literally change the face of the world, Dr Canavero said his team will now get ready to carry out a head transplant on living person.

A scientific paper explaining how he did it is expected to be released in the next few days. It also seems to suggest that the surgery could be done in the 18-hour target that the team has set itself to be successful.

"Canavero has not completed a successful human head transplant, and it is very unlikely that he will ever do so", the magazine wrote on Friday, in a story debunking Canaveros' claims.

The fourth-round pick missed the first nine games of the season recovering from core muscle surgery. I sleep in the heat; that's how I grew up. "Mentally, I'm trying to get my mind ready".

Canavero cites studies on animals to support his plan, but other doctors say that "you're not going to jump from rodent to human" and that Canavero's plan is "criminal". The scientist, who claimed in 2015 that the full-body transplant in humans would happen within two years, is now claiming that he has "successfully" transplanted a human head onto a dead body. "And that is the final step for the formal head transplant for a medical condition which is imminent", he was quoted as saying by The Telegraph.

"The first human transplant on human cadavers has been done", he said. "Everyone said it was impossible, but the operation worked", he said.

Experts in the medical community said that a procedure like this would not be allowed in either the United States or Europe.

And as neuroscience Dr. Dean Burnett points out in a scathing op-ed, Canavero's outsized claims about past successes may not exactly align with the realities of his accomplishments.
