Shahid Kapoor in a still from'Padmavati

In a statement, a spokesperson from Viacom 18 said that it has voluntarily deferred the release date of the film from December 1st 2017 and that they have the highest respect and regard for the law of the land and all institutions and statutory bodies including the Central Board of Film Certification. "S Durga", "Nude" and "Padmavati" to begin with. "We will not allow the release of the movie, be it December 1or any other date".

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi today said the film industry should boycott the International Film Festival of India to mark its protest against threats to filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali and his Padmavati star Deepika Padukone. "The only advice given is to shut up, retreat and accept these attacks".

"So SLB (Bhansali) should show the film to those who threaten to have him beheaded? And get their approval?"

A new release date will be announced once the "requisite clearances" are in place, the production house added. CBFC chief Prasoon Joshi told ANI, "It is disappointing that the film "Padmavati" is being screened for the media and getting reviewed on national channels without CBFC having seen or certified the film".

Amu also warned Ranveer Singh, who is playing the role of Alauddin Khalji in the film saying that he will break his legs if he continues to support the director.
