Star Wars Battlefront II Official Launch: EA stops Microtransactions

Star-Wars-Battlefront-II

Prior to the controversy, the sequel was expected to actually sell more than Battlefield 1 by United Kingdom retailers. Which is what you'd expect the company to say, since the last thing it wants to do is spook the investors.

Star Wars: Battlefront II is now available for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and Gabrielson's full statement can be found on Electronic Arts's official website.

That's why the question we posed in this week's Now Loading was "What do you think about EA temporarily removing microtransactions from Star Wars Battlefront II? The handling of the SWBF2 launch by EA has been poor; despite this, we view the suspension of MTX [micro-transactions] in the near term as a transitory risk", Wingren wrote in a note to clients over the weekend, via CNBC. This was made all the worse when a fan site found out to unlock all the base content in the game, it would take players more than 4,500 hours, or $2,100 if they didn't have the time.

Wingren continued by saying that despite the reaction, video game players aren't overcharged, they're undercharged, and that the contention and blowback were a result of a "perfect storm for overreaction" given the parties involved included EA, the Star Wars franchise, Reddit, and "purist gaming journalists/outlets" who disapprove of micro-transactions.

No word yet from Mugabe, impeachment looms
However, constitutional experts said ZANU-PF had the numbers and could push it through in as little as 24 hours. The embattled leader surprised Zimbabweans on Sunday, declaring on TV that he planned to remain as President.

Evan, who clearly has lots of money, points of that if you look at the cost per hour of entertainment, video games are remarkably cheap.

Compared to over $3 per hour for watching a movie in a theater not counting popcorn or drinks (which you could also consider the theater's "microtransactions" for the sake of Wingren's argument), gamers seem to be getting the better deal right now.

United Kingdom and North American gaming habits aren't too dissimilar so it is possible the same fate will befall Star Wars: Battlefront II over on this side of the pond.
