Volvo to supply "tens of thousands" of autonomous cars to Uber

"We're thrilled to expand our partnership with Volvo".

Uber has already been testing 100 self-driving XC90s since 2016 in Pittsburgh. The automotive industry is being disrupted by technology, and Volvo Cars chooses to be an active part of that disruption.

"Volvo Cars' engineers have worked closely together with engineers from Uber to develop the XC90 premium SUVs that are to be supplied to Uber".

Tesla long ago offered a hybrid version of software for self-driving in its different vehicles, and recently debuted a almost autonomous, electric semi-truck it expects will be available over the next couple of years.

Volvo has announced an agreement to sell a fleet of autonomous driving compatible vehicles to ride-sharing firm Uber. The Financial Times estimates the purchase could be worth as much as £1.1bn to Chinese-owned Volvo.

Interstellar object confirmed to be from another solar system
When 'Oumuamua was detected by the Hawaiian Pan-STARRS 1 telescope, it was nearly mistaken for just another asteroid. Now, new data reveal the interstellar interloper to be a rocky, cigar-shaped object with a somewhat reddish hue.

The ride-sharing service has signed an agreement with Volvo to by tens of thousands of driverless cars. As a part of the agreement, Uber plans to buy as many as 24,000 autonomous vehicles from Volvo by 2019, once the technology is production-ready.

Though this experimental process will depend on the policymakers of the municipal cooperation, those have dealt with the ride-hailing companies like that of Uber for over years.

Given that one of the proposed benefits of autonomous vehicles is the ability to claim back commuting time, allowing drivers to do other things while the auto drives them to work, travel sickness could be a barrier to adoption, both for Uber-like services and privately sold self-driving cars. Please find below commentary from Autotrader and Kelley Blue Book analysts. With the struggles Tesla is having producing the Model 3, tech companies will be smart to let automakers build the vehicles since they have the know how to operate in that capital intensive, low-margin business.

The two companies already committed £2.26m previous year to develop a vehicle that would accommodate the necessary alterations for full autonomy.
