Flynn splits from Trump lawyers; may mean cooperation with Mueller

A Split From Trump Indicates That Flynn Is Moving to Cooperate With Mueller

President Donald Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, may be moving to cooperate with the special counsel investigating ties between the Trump campaign and efforts by Russian Federation to meddle in the 2016 presidential election, The New York Times reported Thursday.

Four people familiar with the matter told the New York Times on Thursday that Flynn had an agreement to keep Trump's lawyers in the loop about Mueller's investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government during the 2016 election. Sharing information is not unusual during intertwining investigations, though defense attorneys are required to stop whenever it poses a conflict of interest.

Lawyers for both sides declined comment to the Times.

Withholding information does not prove Flynn is cooperating with Mueller's investigation, given that lawyers sometimes do so when they begin a negotiation process, The Times reported.

Former FBI Director James Comey testified before Congress in June that Trump asked him to end the bureau's investigation into Flynn's conversations with Kislyak they day after Flynn's resignation, telling him, "I hope you can let this go".

Interviews conducted by special counsel investigators have included questions about the business dealings of Flynn and his son such as their firm's reporting of income from work overseas, two witnesses interviewed by the team previously told CNN.

Flynn is a central figure in a federal probe led by Mueller into whether Trump aides colluded with Russian Federation to boost his 2016 presidential campaign.

Flynn, a retired army general, has been at the center of Mueller's probe for months.

A deal with Flynn would give Mueller a peek at the campaign during its early weeks - potentially exposing Trump or his campaign associates.
