Derrick Rose away from Cavs, evaluating career as injuries take mental toll

ESPN: Derrick Rose has stepped away from Cavaliers, future with team uncertain

Rose, who has been non-communicative to multiple people close to him, is "seriously re-evaluating" his National Basketball Association future, ESPN reported Friday.

One team source told ESPN of Rose: "He's exhausted of being hurt and it's taking a toll on him mentally". As of now, he's projected to average 13.4 points, 3.8 assists and 2.5 rebounds over 56 games the rest of the year. His departure this time is different, a Cavs spokesman told the ESPN writers, because he informed the team that he would be stepping away and is not an active player with the ankle injury.

"Per Wojnarowski, a Cavaliers source said, "[Rose is] exhausted of being hurt, and it's taking a toll on him mentally".

The Cavaliers said that Rose's current absence is excused. His season was also cut short a year ago because of a knee injury. The most devastating was a torn ACL in the 2012 playoffs while with the Chicago Bulls.

Flynn splits from Trump lawyers; may mean cooperation with Mueller
Flynn, a retired army general, has been at the center of Mueller's probe for months. Lawyers for both sides declined comment to the Times .

However, Thomas is still recovering from a hip injury sustained last season with Boston, and Rose was thrust into a starting role. He missed four games initially, then returned and played five games before being sidelined again. It's very clear that Rose won't be at the stadium to play for the Cavs, but the team was already prepared to have Jose Calderon on the court as the starting point guard.

Rose signed a one-year minimum deal with the Cavs this offseason with the hope of resurrecting his career and signing another long-term deal with someone this offseason.

Rose has played in just seven games this season and has been slowed by a left ankle injury sustained on October 20 in Milwaukee.
