You see, support trickled out initially to a limited selection of devices meaning the experience from one Chromebook to the next isn't necessarily the same.

If part of the software you were missing on a Chromebook that kept you from making the leap was Microsoft Office, we've got some good news for you today. Most others, however, have either never seen the apps on offer or have had a sporadic, inconsistent experience. It's the same catch that has always existed for Office users, as Microsoft classifies anything smaller than 10.1 as mobile, but it's still worth mentioning in case Chromebook enthusiasts were hoping to use Word on their 2-in-1 for free. Following comments online that Microsoft Office was available on all Chromebooks with Google Play support, Chrome Unboxed has investigated the situation, confirming that it can be installed on a whole bunch of devices.

It is for the first time that office is available for Chromebook users through Google Play in terms of general release.

The publication checked common Chromebooks such as the Samsung Chromebook Pro, Pixelbook, two different models of Acer Chromebook 15, and the Acer C771.

Are you happy to find out Microsoft Office is available on Chromebooks? However, a report from ZDNet states that Microsoft Office has been accessible from the beta version of the Play Store to some Chromebook users. As it now seems that all Chromebooks with Play Store access can now download Microsoft's productivity suite, it may be that consumer adoption of Chromebooks will increase as their productivity feature set improves.
