American Holiday schedule snafu with pilots nearly solved

The problem could have forced the airline to cancel as many as 15,000 flights over the holidays.

American Airlines said Friday it has solved a scheduling snafu that allowed too many pilots to take off work during the December holiday season.

American Airlines is assuring passengers their holiday travel plans are safe.

The flawed system incorrectly showed the airline had ample coverage for planned flights and allowed pilots to drop some trips they had been assigned because it wrongly showed there were others willing to pick them up.

Fisher resigns after eight seasons
The hefty contract would put fisher behind Alabama's Nick Saban as the second highest paid coach in college football . And I guess we'll see [Fisher] next year, if that's what he's going to do. "Florida State is Florida State".

On Thursday, the company said just a few hundred of its late-December flights still did not have pilots set to fly the plans. Reserve pilots are generally those at American with the least seniority.

"We are working diligently to address the issue and expect to avoid cancellations this holiday season", said airline spokesman Matt Miller. We are pleased to report that together, American and the Allied Pilots Association have put that worry to rest to make sure our flights will operate as scheduled. We can go back to worrying how fast the TSA lines will go.

The news comes after the airliner mistakenly scheduled vacation for 15,000 pilots.

Based on a company memo sent to Bloomberg, it seems that flights now without a captain, first officer, or both, are based out of American Airlines' largest hub, Dallas-Forth Worth International, along with Boston, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, and Charlotte. APA and management have reached an agreement in principle addressing our respective needs, and we have withdrawn our grievance.
