South Korea drawn against Sweden, Mexico and Germany in Group F

World Cup 2018: Neuer and Germany wary of Italy-conquering Swedes

The outcome of the 2018 World Cup draw created great angst Friday in Mexico because "El Tri" landed in a tough group, which includes reigning world champion Germany, Sweden and South Korea. Sweden ranks 18th and Mexico 16th in the Federation Internationale de Football Association world rankings. Mexico is desperate to progress to at least the quarterfinals but likely will need to win Group F in order to avoid a top team in the round of 16.

The sentiment was said by the German national team captain, Manuel Neuer. South Korea has met Germany and Mexico at a World Cup before but they've never played Sweden at the world's biggest sporting event. "I think our first match (against Sweden) will be the most critical for us to reach the round of 16". Led by coach Shin Tae-yong, South Korea will open their World Cup campaign against Sweden on June 18th.

This year, they hope to top that. "So if you go back eight, nine, 10 years ago, we were in a bit of a recession". A plastic tree from the store just sits in a landfill for a 100 years and looks the same when you pull it out.

Mexico also has the potential to make it hard for Germany because they will come face to face in the opening match which means both teams are equally testing the waters.

South Korean attacking ace Son Heung-min, who is with Tottenham Hotspur, said what matters is their hard work ahead of the tournament. "This time, I hope all people can unite together so we won't experience a regrettable World Cup".
