Vijay, Kohli daddy hundreds lift India to 371/4 on day one

Virat Kohli scores another double-hundred to join the game's greats

Virat Kohli remained unbeaten after scoring 156, which included 16 fours, as India were 371/4 at stumps on Day 1.

But it was Vijay, who set the pace for India on the first day.

The Tamil Nadu right-hander's patient innings came off 267 deliveries and was laced with 13 hits to the fence.

Earlier, India elected to bat after winning the toss on a placid Kotla track.

With the wicket, Perera became the fastest Sri Lankan to take 100 wickets.

Shikhar Dhawan (23) and Cheteshwar Pujara (22) - the only wickets that fell in the first session too looked in decent touch with four boundaries apiece before becoming the victim of Dilruwan Perera (1-97) and Lahiru Gamage (1-68) respectively. He and Vijay then joined hands to start recovery work for India. The middle-order mainstay of his team came to the defence of misfiring senior batsman Angelo Mathews, saying all the batsmen needed to perform against the rampaging Indian attack after they nearly lost the opening game in Kolkata and crashed by an innings and 239 runs at Nagpur.

Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar completed 5,000 runs in the fastest format in Test format.

To go with that Kohli also managed to cross the barrier of 16,000 global runs, across all formats.

Indian captains have become the second youngsters, who have scored 5,000 runs. Five of the last seven test matches played at the Feroz Shah Kotla were won by the side that has bowled first.

The Indian captain scored 104 not out in Kolkata followed by 213 in Nagpur before completing his hat-trick with his 20th Test hundred in his 63rd game here.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli is just 29-year-old yet the cricketer has broken many records in the game of fame. Kohli and Vijay put on 283 for the third wicket after India lost its top two batsmen in the morning session.
