Francis Ngannou lifts Alistair Overeem off his feet with truly terrifying knockout

Francis Ngannou left hits Alistair Overeem in the first round during a UFC 218 heavyweight mixed martial arts bout Saturday Dec. 2 2017 in Detroit. Ngannou defeated Overeem by first-round knockout

Max Holloway once again dominated Jose Aldo, defending his featherweight title Saturday night in the main event of UFC 218. Ngannou has stated that not only does he want to become the UFC's first African champion, but also dreams of headlining the company's first fight card on the continent.

Ngannou has always been touted as the heavyweight's best prospect but first he had to come up against one of the greats of the weight class in Overeem.

Overeem had dropped a title challenge to champ Stipe Miocic a year ago, but was back on track, having won two straight.

Ngannou entered bout on a nine-fight winning streak including finishes in all five of his UFC appearances.

President Dana White has high hopes for Francis Ngannou. And in doing so, he made a huge statement. He'd miss, and the pair would clinch against the fence. With not much going on, however, ref Big Dan came in and broke the pair up.

The Cameroonian landed a massive left hand flush on Overeem's chin and put the heavyweight division on notice.

It is unlikely Alistair Overeem is back up and steady on his feet yet after the terrifying uppercut he copped right on the button.

Although no fight date has been confirmed as of writing, the heavyweight champion hasn't fought inside the Octagon since he defended the title against Junior dos Santos at UFC 211 in May earlier this year, so a fight between Miocic and Ngannou could happen sooner rather than later.
