'The Silence Breakers' named Time magazine's Person of the Year

Rose McGowan silence breaker

The people Time magazine has named as their "Person of the Year" are "The Silence Breakers"-the women who courageously spoke up earlier this year lifting the lid on the epidemic of sexual harassment that goes on in Hollywood and other workplaces around the country".

After The New York Times and The New Yorker published accusations of sexual harassment and assault against Weinstein, many more women and some men came forward with allegations against others - including actor Kevin Spacey, comedian Louis C.K. and former NBC anchor Matt Lauer.

Time singles out a person or persons who most influenced the events of the year. The cover features actress and Harvey Weinstein accuser Ashley Judd, singer Taylor Swift who won $1 in a groping case against a DJ, former Uber engineer Susan Fowler, activist Adama Iwu, Isabella Pascual (a strawberry picker from Mexico who asked to use a pseudonym) and the arm of a woman who is not fully in the picture.

Time editor-in-chief Edward Felsenthal revealed the cover on Wednesday morning's Today show, which features Ashley Judd, Taylor Swift, former Uber engineer Susan Fowler and a woman whose face is obscured, meant to represent the women who haven't yet come forward. This was brought into the forefront by American actress Alyssa Milano when she tweeted out the moving cry - "If you've been sexually harassed or assaulted write "me too" as a reply to this tweet" - October 15.

There was some discrepancy, however, with Milano receiving criticism - particularly from black women - for not properly crediting Burke as the creator of the movement and seemingly passing it off as her own. Burke is the founder of a non-profit which helps survivors and she called on women to show solidarity with each other as early as 2006.

Trump Calls On Saudis To Immediately Lift Blockade Of Yemen
Following Saleh's death , the Saudi-led coalition was reported to have blitzed Sanaa with an intensified campaign of airstrikes. The conflict has seen civilians repeatedly killed by bombing and through a lack of access to essential food and clean water.

"This is just the start".

"The idea that influential, inspirational individuals shape the world could not be more apt this year", Felsenthal told "Today." "It's vital to me that we really set in some actionable things that we can do to continue this momentum".

"A huge part of this story is that, as much as the stigma around this has been removed this year because of the Me Too movement, it's still really hard for a lot of women to come forward", Alter continued.

The runner up for Person of the Year was President Donald Trump, followed by President of China, Xi Jinping. O'Reilly also denies any wrongdoing, but the news company severed its ties with the well-known commentator.

The US President tweeted last month that he "took a pass" on the offer of doing a photo shoot and interview for Time.
