Texas hires TCU AD Chris Del Conte in lateral move

Chris Del Conte

Under his leadership, Del Conte oversaw the school's entrance into the Big 12 in 2012.

Mike Perrin's temporary run as Texas' athletic director has come to an end.

TCU athletic director Chris Del Conte will be moving into the same role at Texas, Del Conte acknowledged in a statement Saturday. Del Conte previously was the athletic director at Rice before arriving at TCU.

Fenves and Del Conte will appear in a joint news conference in Austin on Monday. Texas said Perrin will stay on as an adviser for Del Conte.

"Chris has the experience, vision and character that's needed for Texas to build on the Longhorns' rich legacy and to continue winning with integrity for years to come", Fenves said.

Texas has found its next athletic director and managed to do so by taking from one of its in-state rivals. He's basically doing the university a favor.

The body will boast a deep purple translucent shell with laser-etched barnacles, a golden trigger and a glow-in-the-dark skull. Hopefully between this and Crackdown 3, we'll start to see Microsoft back on track when it comes to new exclusives.

In 2009, Del Conte took over at TCU and oversaw the Horned Frogs' transition into the Big 12 Conference three years later.

Del Conte led the TCU program for nine years and recently signed football coach Gary Patterson to a contract extension through 2022.

Chris will begin this week as UT's vice president and athletics director.

At UT, Del Conte will focus on building a new basketball arena and renovating Royal-Memorial Stadium's south end zone.

Del Conte will lead one of the largest and wealthiest athletic programs in the country and one that is starved for success on the football field. He increased donations to the athletics department and hired world-class coaches.

Fenves said Del Conte will get to work right away. "I can't wait to get down to Austin and meet all the student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans". "You will see him at the Texas Bowl in a couple of weeks and at competitions involving all Longhorns teams very soon".
