China Plans Refugee Camps on North Korean Border

Sharing the schedule at a December 11 briefing, Blue House National Security Office second deputy chief Nam Gwan-pyo explained, "During this visit [with Moon] as guest of the state on the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between South Korea and China, the two leaders are planning to hold in-depth discussions on cooperation to peacefully resolve the North Korean nuclear issue and establish peace on the Korean Peninsula, as well as plans for the promotion of peace, stability, and prosperity for the worldwide community within the region".

They also said that the summit does not necessarily have to produce a joint statement when there are still differences over the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system to South Korea. During the interview, Moon stated that, "Both Korea and China have their respective opinions on THAAD".

"With the launch of [our] local subsidiary, we expect better sales in the Chinese market", the company said in a statement.

Many South Koreans believe China has yet to remove its de facto economic sanctions against South Korea.

The difference between the two groups' drills is that the China-Russia drills do not target any third party, while the USA and its allies have a clear imaginary enemy - North Korea, Zhang Junshe, a senior research fellow at the People's Liberation Army (PLA) Naval Military Studies Research Institute, told the Global Times.

"South Korea will be extremely careful from here on out that the THAAD system is not invasive of China's security".

China has also urged the United States, Japan and South Korea to suspend joint military drills in the region in return for North Korea to halt its nuclear activities - an idea consistently rejected by Washington and Seoul. Hyundai Research Institute said that South Korea's tourism industry was estimated to have lost $6.5 billion over the five months from March to July following the Chinese authorities' ban on group tours to the country.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency said Moon had arrived in Beijing, and would meet with South Korean residents and attend a business roundtable on Wednesday.

During his first visit to China since taking office in May this year, Moon is expected to get bilateral economic exchanges back on track.

Top officials from dozens of leading South Korean companies will accompany the president on his visit to China in an apparent bid to mend their own ties with their Chinese counterparts.
