Spokesman: Roger Goodell Will Retire As Commissioner After 2023 Season

As NFL owners descend on Dallas, Jerry Jones must settle for a soap box instead of a scrap

Goodell, 58, succeeded Paul Tagliabue in September of 2006. I thanked him, which I didn't get a chance to do, or chose not to do really, the time we played because I didn't think it was the right setting. "I think the challenges are different".

The meeting starts at 10 a.m. with a presentation from the Compensation Committee, chaired by Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, and the issue of Goodell's contract will be discussed.

Goodell even managed to lighten up and - as he turned toward Jones - crack: "Do I look like I take it personally, Jerry?. No".

Tom Brady is 40 this season, and would need to play until he is 47 to outlast Goodell.

What isn't clear at this point is who is actually in the running to be the next National Football League commissioner as I'm sure Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones will be highly involved with the process. "That's something we've done, and I am prepared and ready to go".

Jones began working to address how the commissioner's contract was handled and get the league out of the player investigations for more than a year.

Life is Strange Coming to iOS
In very exciting news, you will no longer need to leave the Life is unusual universe behind when you leave the house. The fourth and fifth episodes will be released in 2018, though an actual release date has yet to be announced.

That would not include Jones, whose objections surfaced publicly after his star running back, Ezekiel Elliott, ran out of legal options to appeal a six-game suspension handed down by Goodell under the NFL's personal conduct penalty. But the six-owner compensation committee finalized the deal and signed it last week as did Goodell.

It is, however, important to note that Goodell will still be a key player in collective bargaining negotiations after the current one ends in 2020.

Also on the agenda, Goodell will speak to ownership about the league's new social justice initiative. "I respect that, I respect Jerry, I respect everyone else in that room". We don't always agree, and I am not paid to agree [with him].

On the one hand, Jones buttered one side of the bread by saying Goodell "does love this league, there's no question about that" and that "he's been good for this league".

The Atlanta owner said Jones didn't have a role in an increase in the part of Goodell's contract that isn't guaranteed, but that Jones did have input on possible changes to how the committee is put together. And we can't be certain that Jones will continue his interference of Goodell, given that the Cowboys owner at least was partially kind and deflective to the commissioner.
