11-Year-Old Girl Held At Gunpoint, Handcuffed By Grand Rapids Police

Honestie Hodges

Community members are speaking out about the latest incident of police using abusive force in Grand Rapids.

He said police body-camera film of the young lady shouting as she's being arrested seem to be "exasperating" and demonstrate the requirement for policing changes.

"Listening to the 11-year-old's response makes my stomach turn, it makes me physically nauseous. Try not to sleeve her", Whitney Hodges said.

Honestie told WOOD-TV she screamed for her mother, while she was made to sit in the police cruiser.

The incident was captured on bodycam and has led the police department to launch an internal investigation.

An internal affairs investigation of the incident is underway.

The police department wrote on Facebook that its officers detained the three women because they wanted to make sure they weren't Manning - who was arrested in a house not far away from the Hodges' home - or armed with a risky weapon.

'The 11-year-old was handcuffed for a total of 2 minutes while she was brought back into the alley and patted down to make sure that she did not have anything risky on her, ' Grand Rapids Police Department spokeswoman Cathy Williams said.

After it was confirmed none of the three was Manning or had any weapons, police said they released Hodges and the two adults.

Joe Biden Comforts Meghan McCain on The View
He even recalled a time that McCain told him to "get the hell off" the ticket in 2008. "There is hope. Meghan McCain thanked Biden later, tweeting she had no words to convey her "immense gratitude".

The girl, Honestie Hodges, was handcuffed and detained briefly while police looked for a relative, a suspect in a December 6 stabbing.

"I'm afraid to open or go near my back door", she said.

The young girl said she had wanted to be a detective or police officer when she grew up but now she did not want anything to do with "those kind of things".

Honestie's mom and another woman in the house were also detained briefly before they were let go, police said. The cops believed the 40-year-old, who was later arrested, was dangerously armed.

"I've never got in trouble by the Grand Rapids Police".

The Hodges family are filing a complaint against the police department.

The screams of the 11-year-old go to your heart said Chief Rahinsky.

Rahinsky acknowledged that sometimes suspects try to hide weapons by giving them to children, but also said he didn't believe this was a situation where the child posed any danger. "We've got work to do as a profession, we've got work to do as an agency and we've got hard discussions to have as a community", Rahinsky said.

The girl's mother and the president of the local chapter of the NAACP met Tuesday with Rahinsky, reports say.
