Adrian Peterson has been placed on injured reserve because of a neck injury, ending the running back's season after only six games with the Arizona Cardinals.

Arizona Cardinals running back Adrian Peterson (23) runs against San Francisco 49ers defensive end Leger Douzable during the second half of an NFL football game in Santa Clara, Calif., Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017.

Peterson himself confirms this report with a statement he made, which also addressed his future.

Peterson is technically under contract for another season with the Cardinals. Johnson has been out since Week 1 when he suffered a wrist injury.

Peterson had been out since November 26 after hurting his neck against the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has not practiced since the injury. Peterson wasn't a fit in New Orleans and was traded to Arizona after just four games. He churned out 134 yards and two touchdowns in his desert debut, and he racked up 314 rushing yards over his first three games. To fill his spot on the roster, the team adds cornerback C.J. Goodwin, whom the Cardinals claimed off waivers. He entered the league with Pittsburgh as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2014 out of California University of Pennsylvania as a wide receiver and spent his rookie season on the Steelers practice squad. He will be 10th all-time with 36 more yards. This season, Goodwin played 12 games for the Falcons, recording five tackles on defense and three on the special teams unit.
