Geminids Meteor Shower Dazzles Skywatchers Across The Globe

This month, The Geminid meteor shower is active until Sunday, December 17th, but will peak tonight and tomorrow night, according to NASA.

The meteor shower typically occurs in mid-December each year, when the Earth passes through a cloud of cosmic dust left behind by an asteroid collision.

Heads up Earthlings! One of the more major meteor showers is coming to a sky near you.

"The Geminids offer slow, brighter than average meteors with some having hints of color, reds and yellows", said Eric Vandernoot, astronomy and physics lab coordinator at Florida Atlantic University.

The meteors originate from Asteroid 3200 Phaethon, the debris shed by the asteroid crashes into the Earth's upper atmosphere at around 80,000 miles (130,000 km per hour) and vaporise as colourful Geminid meteors and cause the streak of light we call meteors. "As for the best of the year, well, that often depends on the lunar phase at the time".

16-year-old's Harvard acceptance video goes viral
After reading his acceptance letter, he thought that his "life had been changed forever". When Little gets to college , he says he plans to study math and computer science.

These magical Geminids appear as a streak against the sky, with around 60 to 120 to be viewed in recent years.

Geminid activity is broad, according to Bill Cooke with NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. "The thin, waning crescent Moon won't spoil the show".

But in a way, the earlier part of the show may be more spectacular.

The shooting stars can be seen with the naked eye in this mountainous region far away from cities and their light pollution. "If that is too hard for them, then I often advise people to head east towards the shore".

As for 3200 Phaethon?
