Weinstein denies blacklisting actresses Ashley Judd, Mira Sorvino

After Peter Jackson revealed yesterday that Bob and Harvey Weinstein steered him away from casting actresses Mira Sorvino and Ashley Judd in Lord Of The Rings, another director has come forward with a story about similar blacklisting tactics from the brothers.

As Peter Jackson explained in his own statement, Bob and Harvey Weinstein had nothing to do with "Lord of the Rings".

Sorvino said Weinstein "derailed my career".

Three-time Oscar victor Jackson, who described Weinstein and his brother, Bob Weinstein, as "behaving like second-rate Mafia bullies", also said he feuded with the studio about the number of films in the franchise and has chosen not to work with the brothers since.

It comes after filmmaker Sir Peter Jackson insisted Weinstein, 65, told him Ashley and Mira were "difficult to work with", and encouraged him not to cast them in the early 2000s fantasy trilogy.

It is quite heartbreaking to think of Sorvino (and all of the other actresses who have been treated similarly) second-guessing their talent when work dried up after they attempted to stand up to Weinstein when nobody was listening.

Judd also reacted to the news, tweeting simply: "I remember this well". Mira previously praised Jackson for confirming her worst fears about a smear campaign, tweeting: "Just seeing this after I awoke, I burst out crying. This was probably in 1998", Jackson said in the article, referring to when he was pitching his ideas for the "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" trilogies. "I now suspect we were fed false information about both of these talented women - and as a direct result their names were removed from our casting list", he added.

In a new statement released by a spokesperson on Weinstein's behalf, the former Miramax honcho says he not only didn't blacklist Sorvino but "was in fact working with her during the timeframe in question on Mimic, the Guillermo Del Toro film". I felt if I had accepted Harvey's advances, I would have continued to make movies with them... "Movie-making is much more fun when you work with nice people".

Weinstein said he had nothing to do with the casting of "Lord of the Rings". Weinstein said he cast him but allowed Backus "to amicably break his contact" to pursue a different opportunity.

It's an assertion Weinstein himself is denying.

In the latest allegations to surface Friday, actress JuJu Chan told Variety magazine Weinstein's Asia associate Bey Logan had made unwanted sexual advances ahead of the production of The Weinstein Co.'s 2016 film "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny".

Logan, a consulting producer with The Weinstein Company and a friend of Weinstein, denies the allegations.
