Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe 'eligible for early release'

A former employee of the BBC World Service Trust, Zaghari-Ratcliffe was working for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, the charitable arm of the news agency.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the British-Iranian woman serving a five-year jail sentence in Tehran, has been told by her lawyer that her case has been marked as being eligible for early release, in a development her husband said was positive.

Last week her anguished husband Richard revealed he believes there is "still a chance" she may be released by Iran for Christmas. Richard Ratcliffe said her lawyer was under the impression that the authorities were now finalising paperwork for her release.

'Nazanin remains a mum on holiday with a toddler, an ordinary citizen, British and Iranian, held in prison for doing a charity job, ' he said.

Jailed Briton Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe is eligible for early release from prison is Iran, according to her husband.

"That's on the computer, that's in the background - it's not what we've been told but it's a really good sign". Though Johnson later corrected himself, Iranian state television has made a point to repeatedly highlight them as justification for imprisoning her.

Cuban President Raul Castro to Stay in Power Until April
The vote by lawmakers pushed back the date of general elections, which were initially to be held at the end of February. The delay is due to the havoc caused by Hurricane Irma - which tore across the island in September.

"It's all positive, it's not guaranteed just yet but it's definitely part of that change of ties".

Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe was due in court on a new charge of "spreading propaganda against the regime" shortly after the visit but it did not go ahead. Both her family and Thomson Reuters stress she was not involved in any work regarding Iran while there.

Tulip Siddiq, her constituency MP in Britain, called the news a "glimmer of hope".

"It has given Nazanin a real boost of positive energy, and now we wait impatiently to see what happens next".

"I've seen where we're going to buy the Christmas tree and I've got the box of decorations in the back of the wardrobe". He's actually a lot more hopeful and that's what he told her, because on the judiciary computer there's a database that records the status of cases and it says she is eligible for release.

Mrs Zaghari-Ratcliffe's case has gained widespread attention in the United Kingdom following her husband's high-profile campaign for her release.
