Excessive gaming may be labeled a mental health disorder

Parents will soon have another reason to scrutinize video game purchases for their children because the World Health Organization plans to recognize excessive gaming as a mental health disorder, according to Forbes Magazine.

Put the controller down and step away from Candy Crush.

In the beta draft of the WHO's forthcoming 11 update of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11), due out in 2018, gaming disorder is presently included as an affliction.

There's no denying that as the gaming industry continues to grow, so does the controversy surrounding whether or not games are unsafe for your health.

Rajinikanth's 6-Day Fan Meet Begins Today In Chennai
Since then, his fans have urged him to enter politics and expectations have risen among political observers. They target Rajinikanth and recently Vishal for their non-Tamil roots to be in Tamil politics.

The disorder is classified as a pattern of persistent or recurrent gaming behavior, such as digital and video gaming, which may be on online or offline.

These people give increasing priority to gaming "to the extent that gaming takes precedence over other life interests", and that they will continue gaming despite the occurrence of negative consequences. That's right, World Health Organization is set to declare excessive gaming to be an official disorder sometime in 2018 for the first time in history. The WHO says that a diagnosis can be assigned after a period of 12 months, except when "all diagnostic requirements are met and symptoms are severe". The "Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 5th Edition: DSM-5" listed "Internet Gaming Disorder" as a "condition for further study" in 2013.

Gamers think playing video games can be akin to other hobbies or even professions. Estimates of the proportion of computer game players who have a problem range from 0.2 per cent to one in five. But as with everything, moderation is key.
