Instagram's Feed to Now Show 'Recommended for You' Posts

Instagram users to now see ‘recommended posts’ in home feed

As early as last week, Instagram confirmed that it was in the trial phases of implementing this new feature, which was created to showcase posts your friends have recently liked, or what the company's algorithm system has chosen as a post that may be of interest to its user.

The feature, first spotted in testing last month, has now gone live and is the first time the Facebook-owned company has offered recommended content in the home feed.

To hide these recommended posts, tap the three "dots" menu above the post, then tap "Hide".

Previously recommended content was in the Explore section and would not be pushed onto the home feed.

The "Recommended for You" option lets the users see recommendations on the basis of the posts liked by the accounts they follow. It will display posts of users that you follow, who have liked a certain post.

Instagram will show these recommended posts under a new section called "Recommended for You" in your main feed. Instragram says users can temporarily hide "Recommended for You" posts, with the implication being that they will reappear in their home feed automatically after a short period of time.

As the name suggests, the new feature will show users Instagram posts that they may like, based on the history.

Veteran Atlanta TV anchor Amanda Davis dies after stroke
She had the stroke at Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta while on her way to her step-father's funeral, the station reported . Before that, she had been a reporter and anchor for Atlanta's Fox affiliate, WAGA-TV, prior to leaving the station in 2013.

Another Twitter user was also unimpressed by the new update. I follow the accounts I follow for a reason. CyA. I don't care. I wanna see pictures from people I actually follow, and chronologically at that!'

You could also see what posts friends had liked in the Following section, if you choose to do so.

The above change, however, isn't anything revolutionary given that recommended posts were available earlier as well, though those used to clubbed separately under the explore tab.

If you set your account to private, the hashtags you follow will only be visible to your followers.

Dear Instagram, the only thing I want recommended to me on my feed are my friend's photos iN THE ORDER THEY WERE POSTED IN! All they need to do is to tap on the Direct icon.

Instagram is also working on several other new features, and reportedly inviting people to test the beta version of its Android and iOS apps.
