Padmavati: Controversial film cleared by Indian censor board

Padmavati

The board asked that the name of the film be changed to "Padmavat", to reflect that the source material was an epic poem of the same name and not from actual historical events, Joshi said.

Padmavati, which will now be called Padmavat, stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles. "Considering complexities and concerns around the film the requirement for a special panel was felt by CBFC to add perspective to the final decision".

Mumbai: In a sigh of relief for filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has cleared his magnum opus "Padmavati" for release with a "U/A" certificate, but has asked to change the title of the movie to "Padmavat". On the other hand, Sri Rajput Karni Sena started protesting against the film ever since it was made on the grounds that it distorts Rajput history.

However, a special panel that reviewed the film consisted of two Rajasthan-based historians R S Khangarot, principal of Agrawal College in Jaipur, and B L Gupta, retired head of the History department and professor K K Singh from Udaipur.

The board, along with the special panel comprising Arvind Singh from Udaipur, Dr.Chandramani Singh and Prof K.K. Singh of the Jaipur University, have chose to give Padmavati a UA certification.

(COG) Shares Bought by Point72 Asset Management LP
The stock of Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE: COG ) earned "Underperform" rating by Bank of America on Wednesday, January 4. Key Group Holdings Cayman Ltd decreased Proshares Tr Ii (AGQ) stake by 59,240 shares to 442,422 valued at $14.67M in 2017Q3.

A special panel meeting took place on December 28 in the presence of CBFC chairman Prasoon Joshi and took the decision.

Bhansali Productions, in a written communication to the CBFC, had earlier requested that a panel of historians/academicians and members of the Rajput community should watch the film.

According to Joshi, these suggested changes "are completely in agreement with the filmmakers - the producers and director of the film".

As per CBFC, the film was approached with a "balanced view keeping in mind both the filmmakers and the society". Padmavati was supposed to release on 1st December 2017, but thanks to ongoing controversies and some bending of the rules from the side of the makers, the film has been postponed. Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi from this pressure spoke to the media and said if Padmavat releases in theatres, the men belonging to Sri Rajput Karna Sena will vandalize each and every cinema hall showing the flick. "And I think the issue should now finally end", Chauhan told ANI.
