Murray pulls out of Brisbane tourney

Murray lost a one-set exhibition match 6-2 against Roberto Bautista Aug earlier this week

The former No. 1-ranked Murray had been scheduled to play his first match on Thursday, but notified organizers he was pulling out after failing to practice on Tuesday. "I'm aware of the situation at the end of a year ago (2017) especially because for tennis and the sport it's not good", Murray said of the injury situation.

Murray showed the effects of his time away from the court during his 2-6 loss Friday to Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut, but he is pressing on with his plans to play in the year's opening Grand Slam in Melbourne next month.

The Scots Wimbledon legend posted a heartfelt message to his followers on Instagram after news broke that he was withdrawing from the Brisbane International. "It's a shame because I always come here excited about the first tournament, and this one was bad luck, I guess". "However this is something I may have to consider but let's hope not".

Long lines for DFW global passengers due to US Customs computer issue
Officials said the issue lasted about two hours, leading to longer lines and frustration among global travelers. Although the systems are working again, San Diego travelers may still face a backlog of lines and delays.

The Brisbane International had been Muguruza's only scheduled tuneup event before the first major of the season gets under way in Melbourne on January 15. I genuinely miss it so much and i would give anything to be back out there.

Murray knows all about this, after coming back post back surgery a few years ago. Having played practice sets here in Brisbane with some top players unfortunately this hasn't worked yet to get me to the level I would like so I have to reassess my options. Though there were some doubts about Murray not playing the Australian Summer, he felt he was ready to take part in tournaments Down Under. And although he has done everything he can to avoid surgery on what has now become a chronic hip issue, he seems to be at the point where he's considering it - even if, as he points out, there is no guarantee of a successful outcome. (Murray had a first-round bye, as the No. 2 seed).

Players in general are taking more and more time off to recover for the upcoming season.
