Ex-Indian army officer kills six with iron rod

Palwal: Haryana on Tuesday woke up to a chilling series of murders in which six people were brutally killed at separate locations across Palwal.

A woman attendant of a patient inside a private hospital was the first to be murdered around 2:30 a.m.

The retired Army man, who identified himself to the police as Naresh and was found to be mentally unsound, was arrested for allegedly killing six people at various spots.

Naresh Dhankad, a lieutenant, had taken voluntary retirement in 2003 on medical grounds, the police said.

According to reports, Naresh first killed a woman in a hospital. Two of his other victims too were security guards. Currently, Dhankar was posted as SDO in the department in Bhiwani. The investigation is on and the Police are on high alert even after the arrest of the accused.

In CCTV footage released by the police, the man, wearing a blue sweater and white pants, is seen entering what looks like a hospital corridor.

In the video, the accused was seen armed with the rod and moving around. The 35-year-old woman had gone to the hospital for the delivery of her sister-in-law. The police control room received five more calls of murder in the next over an hour.

The crimes took place close to a police station.

The accused who is being termed as a "psycho" even tried to attack cops when they tried to nab him. He was later transferred to a hospital in Faridabad.
