Netflix Plans To Take The FCC To Court Over Net Neutrality

Despite widespread protests the FCC voted to repeal net neutrality in December

A leading lobbying group for Amazon, Facebook, Google, Netflix, Twitter and other tech giants said Friday that it would be joining the coming legal crusade to restore the USA government's net neutrality rules.

Netflix, whose data-heavy video streams could face extra charges by internet service providers, also said it would support a legal challenge. "As for the FCC, we will see you in court", the company said in a message posted on Twitter.

"In 2018, the Internet is united in defense of #NetNeutrality".

"The final version of Chairman Pai's rule, as expected, dismantles popular net neutrality protections for consumers".

The cancellation comes hot in the heels of the regulator's repeal of net neutrality in the USA in December 2017 - prompting speculation that Pai would have been greeted with a hostile reaction at the conference from the largely pro-net neutrality tech industry. He has also argued that the change would withstand any legal challenge, as it essentially restores the rules to what they were before 2015.

Triple talaq bill: Congress issues whip for its members in Rajya Sabha
The Congress wants the bill referred to a standing committee for review, but the government stood firm on opposing that demand. However the leading dispensation is hopeful that the opposition would not stall the passage of the Bill in the Upper House.

Brian Hart, director of the office of media relations at the FCC, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that they "cannot comment on security measures or concerns".

Meanwhile, Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) is seeking to secure the votes that would force a vote to reverse the FCC's action and restore the rules, via the Congressional Review Act.

The controversial vote, which was supposed to remove the US government net neutrality rules, was scrapped after a bomb threat.

Both sides of the network neutrality debate agree that it would be good for Congress to clarify how the 'net should be regulated, but the "how" and "what" and "by whom" continues to divide them along party and regulatory ideology lines.

Ajit Pai, chairman of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), was reportedly forced to cancel an upcoming appearance at a highly anticipated technology conference after receiving multiple death threats. The commission declined to say why he would not attend, but has previously confirmed that he and his family had recently received threats by phone and email over the net neutrality issue.
