Run, don't walk, to replace your iPhone battery for $29

I went in to Apple's San Francisco flagship five days after its announcement and my store Genius reported he was already out of stock of iPhone 6 batteries - and there were thousands of other customers ahead of me to get one.

After customers and media reports expressed suspicion last month that the company was artificially slowing devices, Apple confirmed the practice and described it in a post on the company's website.

However, Apple announced in a statement that the effort was created to prevent sudden shutdowns caused by aging batteries. The company said its goal was to prevent "unexpected shutdowns", in which the device turns off suddenly due to the failing battery.

When an aged battery was replaced with a new one, the performance returned to normal, the company said.

If you've determined that your iPhone is being throttled, you can either take advantage of Apple's battery replacement program or do it yourself, which is where iFixit's kit comes in.

"Battery replacement for an iPhone may be trickier considering its use of unique parts like black pouch and tape".

"We've been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process", Apple said yesterday in its online apology.

In just 19 minutes, Thomas scored 17 points and helped lead the Cavs second unit on a huge run against the Blazers. Cavaliers forward LeBron James passes the ball as Celtics guard Kyrie Irving defends during the second quarter.

First and foremost, we have never - and would never - do anything to intentionally shorten the life of any Apple product, or degrade the user experience to drive customer upgrades. When I showed up with an appointment at my closest Apple store on Wednesday, there were so many others also trying to replace their batteries that I had to join a weekslong waiting list.

But sources say the reduced price can not labeled "discounted" considering the battery prices of other premium phones in the market. But what if you're on the fence about your own iPhone's battery?

Again, your guide is Apple's Support site.

Alternatively, there are a number of third party apps that also monitor battery health and can give you the same information. Only time will tell if Apple's attempt of lowering replacement battery costs will be enough to satisfy the courts and future juries, but one thing is for sure, it won't work in South Korea in any way shape or form.

Previously, whenever developers tried to release an app that measured iPhone battery charge cycles, Apple pulled it from the App Store. If you always suspected your old iPhone was getting slower, you were right. (If you paid for AppleCare+ coverage, it might even be free.) Remember, this isn't just about improving battery life; some tests have found replacing the battery can result in speed improvements of more than 100 percent. Whether you trust that from the company that just admitted to crippling CPUs just because batteries get old is up to you.

In Korea, Apple is cutting the battery replacement cost from $95 to $32 through this year. However, some users have said that Apple was sticking to the requirement that a battery must retain less than 80 percent of its original capacity to be replaced. The iPhone 6S and 7 have 1,715-milliamp-hour and 1,960mAh batteries, respectively, which compare to Samsung S8's 3,000mAh, LG G6's 3,300mAh and Huawei P9's 3,000mAh batteries.
