Comedian Jerry Van Dyke Dies at 86

Dearly departed Legendary entertainer Dick Van Dyke's younger brother Jerry passed away at the age of 86 Friday at his Arkansas ranch according to his wife who spoke with TMZ Saturday

Jerry's wife, Shirley Ann Jones, told New York Timesthat the actor and comedian's health had been deteriorating since a 2015 traffic accident.

According to Variety, Jerry Van Dyke, Emmy-nominated actor and younger brother of Dick Van Dyke, died on Friday at age 86. Shirley said her husband's health began deteriorating after they were both involved in a vehicle accident two years earlier.

He was the younger brother of Dick Van Dyke, and was also a comedian who pursued stand-up while still a young man, performing often at the world's military bases. While it is unclear if Jerry's brother Dick was present at the time of his passing, Shirley did confirm that the brothers spent time together while Dick visited them for Christmas last month. He made his acting debut on "The Dick Van Dyke" show and followed that up with appearances on "The Ed Sullivan Show" before becoming a regular on "The Judy Garland Show".

In 1989, however, Van Dyke nabbed the role of Assistant Coach Luther Van Dam on "Coach", which ran until 1997. He appeared as Stacey Petrie in the 1960s on The Dick Van Dyke Show, which he followed up with appearances on The Andy Griffith Show, My Mother the auto, and Accidental Family.
