Arsenal 'quote Manchester City £40m for Alexis Sanchez'

Manchester City remain hopeful of completing a deal for Alexis Sanchez this month, with talks ongoing between the runaway Premier League leaders and Arsenal.

City have been caught in two minds over whether to sign Sanchez in January or wait to the summer to snap him up on a free transfer, but it looks as though the injury to Gabriel Jesus has forced their hand, according to multiple outlets, including The Independent's Miguel Delaney and John Cross of the Daily Mirror.

Arsenal have also tracked Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubemayang but manager Arsene Wenger ruled out the possibility of a deal last week.

Despite this, the north London giants are said to demand a minimum transfer fee of around £40m with Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool credited with an interest in the versatile attacker.

The Chile global has entered the final six month of his Gunners contract, and his representative is free to discuss a pre-contract agreement with a foreign side this month.

City now lead the league by 15 points over their eternal rivals Manchester United, and the addition of Sanchez to their already stacked squad would make them an even more frightening prospect.

Sanchez was close to joining City in the summer on transfer deadline day until Arsenal pulled the plug on a £60 million deal late in the day.

The 28-year-old has been in prolific form this season scoring 13 goals and providing three assists in just 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, and scored a further four goals in the UEFA Champions League group stage in a group which featured Tottenham and Real Madrid.
