CES 2018: AMD Ryzen Desktop CPU with Vega Graphics Coming Feb 12

AMD Ryzen 2 release date

At the top of the tree is the Ryzen 7 Pro, which is also a quad-core (eight-thread) processor clocked at up to 3.8GHz, with the integrated Vega Graphics having 10 graphics compute units and a GPU clock of up to 1300MHz. It offers only 2 cores (but four threads thanks to Hyperthreading) that run at 3.4 GHz. Before long, Ryzen chips were already trickling into the mainstream and entry-level markets, helping AMD regain a foothold in the territory Intel had been trying to wrest away from it for years. The Ryzen 3 2200G has base and boost speeds of 3.5GHz and 3.7GHz respectively and will cost $99 (approximately Rs. 6,265).

What's new about the 2018 Ryzen desktop chips?

However, we don't expect major architecture changes between the first generation and this second generation of Ryzen CPUs. 2nd-gen Ryzen will be built on a 12nm process using the Zen+ architecture, which includes minor optimizations to first-gen Zen. Considering some of the early growing pains with the AM4 platform, the new chipset may help to further improve performance, stability, and features.

Most of the existing CPU models have received price cuts ranging from $15 to $150, which should put even more pressure on Intel.

Along with the updated processors, AMD will also have a new X470 chipset.

Kawhi Leonard will miss time with a partial tear in his shoulder
However, Popovich has managed to guide San Antonio to 27-13, good for third place in the West, heading into Sunday's contest. After missing most of the start of the season due to a quad injury, Leonard will now be limited by a shoulder injury.

"The new 400-series chipset is an evolution of the 300-series", explains Prior. The company claims up to 175 percent and 128 percent better CPU and GPU performance compared to its own previous-generation APUs, along with 58 percent lower power consumption. All of the Ryzen 7 CPUs have also seen their prices drop, with the 1800X going to $349 (was $499), the 1700X is $309 (was $399), and the 1700 is now $299 (was $329). The APU also comes outfitted with full-on Radeon RX Vega graphics powered by six compute units. Both have 3.4GHz base speeds but the former can boost up to 2GHz while the latter can manage 2.5GHz under load. AMD is introducing the Ryzen 3 2200U and the Ryzen 3 2300U, which should appear in less expensive systems. AMD has confirmed that this design is complete and says that it improves on Zen in "multiple dimensions".

But AMD are also promising extra features to optimise the performance per Watt capabilities of their new Zen+ processors. Both are scheduled to ship before 2020 though more specific timeframes were not announced.

Meanwhile, Navi, the follow-on graphics architecture to Vega, will be produced with 7-nanometer circuitry, and AMD's follow-on "Next-Gen" graphics architecture is expected to go into production with a 7-nanometer-plus process. AMD has plotted one more architecture refresh before 2020, though again without any firm launch targets. There's a catch, however, as AMD says the 7nm Vega parts will initially be destined for machine learning Radeon Instinct products, presumably with consumer variants coming later.

AMD CTO Mark Papermaster also acknowledged the massive Meltdown and Spectre CPU vulnerabilities that have been confirmed to affect not only Intel chips but also those designed by ARM, Apple, Qualcomm, and AMD. So it's not really a surprise that, in announcing its next wave of processors, this is where AMD is starting.
