Nebraska Community Blood Bank Needs Donations

Preliminary Total of M*A*S*H Blood Drive Donations

The winter season is usually tough, but severe winter storms have been making it even harder, forcing the Red Cross to cancel blood drives throughout the region. More than 150 blood drives were forced to cancel because of it, causing over 5,500 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected.

January is National Blood Donor Month, and Central Blood Bank is putting out a call to donors to help save lives during this time of extreme need.

The Red Cross says there's an urgent need now for blood and platelets of all types, although platelets and type O, B and AB blood are at more of a critical juncture.

Nationally, the Red Cross, via donations, provides about 40 percent of the country's blood supply.
