Trump, Key Lawmakers Negotiating Immigration Policies

Texas Republicans have more at stake than anyone as Washington's border security deliberations drag on. Trump also seemed to imply that he is willing to weather his base's displeasure should it learn that he might be down to grant millions of undocumented immigrants a path to citizenship, telling Senator Lindsey Graham, "I'll take the heat".

But since the Dems are going to the wall to get DACA approved, Trump upped the stakes when he demanded other immigration enforcement measures be included along with DACA legislation, including funding for the president's border wall - a provision that enrages the Dems base as much as not getting DACA illegals legalized.

Trump only this week became more active in trying to broker a deal. A framework for a compromise is expected next week. It's a wall. I mean, people can climb it. Lindsey Graham of SC at one point. In exchange, Republicans have pushed for enhancements to border security, immigration enforcement and changes to the legal immigration system.

In the highly unusual, 45-plus-minute negotiations that aired on news networks afterward, a bipartisan group of lawmakers debated whether to enact a two-phased approach to immigration reform, in which the first component resolved the soon-to-be terminated Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and the second tackles broader reforms to the United States immigration system.

Trump, in the Tuesday meeting, emphasized the need for immigration reform to be bipartisan, noting that the plight of Dreamers is a dilemma that concerns both Democrats and Republicans. And yeah, they're going to have border patrols there to make sure that doesn't happen, just like we already have now that clearly isn't stopping the problem enough for republicans.

Donald Trump, I can not stress enough how stupid this man is, and not just because of the decisions that he makes and the things that he says, but because of his gross underestimation of the intelligence of the American people.

But Republicans claim Democrats won't back a long-term spending plan until Congress agrees to shield hundreds of thousands of young undocumented immigrants from deportation.

British human rights commission gets involved — BBC pay gap
Meanwhile we are by no means the only workplace with hidden pay discrimination and the pressure for transparency is only growing. Why were you willing to offer a pay raise to Gracie, yet still refuse to give her equal pay? She said: "My pay is £135,000".

A Republican candidate has dropped out of the race to represent New Mexico in the United States House of Representatives.

"We've been talking about DACA for a long time", Trump said, referring to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program formed in 2012 through an executive order by former President Barack Obama that allowed those who were brought to the USA illegally as children to stay and work without fear of deportation. So if we're not going to tackle the problem of home-grown domestic terrorist that walk into a church and shoot up people, or walk into an elementary school or a movie theater, then why the hell should we spend $33 billion to keep out one or two people who may or may not be unsafe? NumbersUSA, a top immigration control group, said that Trump's focus on border security and giving a lower priority to changes to immigration law was glossing over a top issue to his supporters.

Pressed again repeatedly, Sanders again insisted Trump wants "border security" funding - but would not commit to the wall. A House committee approved a version of the senator's bill a year ago.

"The other thing that we've got to look at, the wall itself, talk to your Border Patrol chief or the former Border Patrol chief, I've asked them, how much time does a wall buy you?"

There are about 780,000 DACA recipients living in the country. Trump said, "it should be a bill of love".

"Trump has the power with the base right now to define what's good enough and what isn't", said Steinhauser. "Whatever that means, they trust him".

He added: "But it also has to be a bill where we are able to secure our border". As of Thursday, Cornyn still hadn't received a list to take back to his Senate colleagues.
