TV newsman John Dickerson to replace Charlie Rose on 'CBS This Morning'

CBS News has announced that a familiar face in the television news organization will join Gayle King and Norah O'Donnell on CBS This Morning.

Dickerson replaces Charlie Rose, who was sacked in November over sexual misconduct allegations. "He's the flawless complement to Gayle and Norah". He'll join "CBS This Morning" on Wednesday. Dickerson will move to NY as part of this new duties, and is expected to cede the "Nation" spot to a new anchor, Rhodes said in a memo to staff Tuesday. "Can't think of better way to celebrate and kick off our next chapter", King said.

At the time of Rose's termination, Rhodes said: "Despite Charlie's important journalistic contribution to our news division, there is absolutely nothing more important, in this or any organization, than ensuring a safe, professional workplace - a supportive environment where people feel they can do their best work".

CBS has been mired in third place in the broadcast morning show wars for decades. "I've worked alongside John for nearly 20 years, and this is a great way to continue our mission of putting the news back in the morning".

Dickerson is no stranger to CBS-he's hosted Face the Nation since 2015 and served as the network's political director.

The journalist John Dickerson is a Washington creature to his core: a presidential historian, repository of political trivia, and scion of a glamorous Kalorama family whose party guests regularly included Kennedys, Johnsons and Reagans. His mother was Nancy Dickerson, CBS' News' first female correspondent and an associate producer on the first broadcast of "Face the Nation" in 1954.

Tuesday happens to be the six-year anniversary of "CBS This Morning". Before Slate, Dickerson covered politics for 12 years for Time magazine. Last week its "Today" show named Hoda Kotb as co-host, formally replacing Matt Lauer, who was sacked for what NBC called "inappropriate sexual behavior in the workplace".
