Four cricketers arrested for 'respecting' Pakistan national anthem

Two cricket teams have been booked for standing in honour of Pakistan’s national anthem being played before the start of a match in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district

In the video, the players were seen wearing the green jerseys of Pakistan's national team, the daily added.

As Jammu and Kashmir's four boys arrested as their only fault that they respected Pakistan's national anthem, the four boys who have been arrested are from Bandipora district.

In another incident, video of two young Kashmiri artistes performing Pakistan's national anthem on traditional instruments of Rabab and Santoor also went viral on social media.

"There were some mischievous elements who created this problem, it is a far flung area and I think people were made to do this under pressure, police is now after the cricketers and this has also come in the media, but I don't think cricketers had any bad intentions", said Mr Majeed. The incident took place on January 3.

Couple captured in murder of 4-year-old Sumpter Township girl
Leah Barrett said her family is heartbroken over the loss, but feels better knowing Diaz and Fields have been found and arrested. According to police, Diaz's 4-year-old daughter, Gabby, was found dead in a mobile home in Sumpter Township last week.

Another police official informed that the two teams have been booked under Section 13 of the Unlawful Activities Act. Even though the police confirmed the news of detaining the two teams, they kept shush on revealing who was arrested. "Jammu and Kashmir is India and only Indian anthem will be played here and Indian tricolour unfurled", said BJP legislator Ravinder Raina.

Senior Superintendent of Police of Bandipora Sheikh Zulfikar Azad told Greater Kashmir that the police had held a "counseling session" in the village.

This is not the first time that cricket matches have led to arrests in Kashmir. The match was being played between Gondipora and Dardpora Cricket Club. The police has registered a case against two cricket teams for singing Pakistan's national anthem. However, the detained were soon let off following assurances from their parents.
