Eight Earthquakes Strike Iran-Iraq Border, Injuring 4

An Iranian girl looks through a salvaged mirror from a damaged building in the town of Sarpol-e Zahab in the western Kermanshah province near the border with Iraq

According to the National Seismological Centre of the University of Tehran's Institute of Geophysics, the natural disaster hit an area 13km away from the town of Sumar in Kermanshah province on Thursday at 10:29 a.m. local time.

There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Several other earthquakes hit eastern Iran, according to USGS, and were also felt in Iraq's eastern and central provinces. The eighth quake struck near Mehran in western Iraq.

Iranian media are reporting that a magnitude 5.1 quake has jolted the country's southern province of Kerman.

Another one was 5.2 magnitude at about 10:14 a.m. (0714 GMT), with 10 km depth, close to the first near Mandly, the USGS said.

CM directs police to arrest Zainab's killer
The girl was on her way to a Quran recital when a man approached her, grabbed her by the hand and led her away. She was allegedly abducted after this. "I am a mother", she said, at the start of the show.

Geophysicist Randy Baldwin told The Associated Press on Thursday that such quakes should be expected in the region after the November 7.2 magnitude temblor. "If there was a stressed fault that's ready to move, they happen like that until the stresses are relieved, so it's not too unusual".

In November a year ago, a massive quake of magnitude 7.3 struck areas near Iran-Iraq border.

In Iraq, nine people were killed and 550 injured in the northern Kurdish region, according to the UN.

Many buildings collapsed or sustained major damage in November's quake.
