Katie Couric Slams Today for Matt Lauer's 'Completely Unacceptable' Workplace Harassment

We've heard from a lot of people since Matt Lauer was sacked from NBC over allegations of sexual misconduct, including his former co-anchors, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Ktob, who made an on-air statement on the subject, as well Lauer himself.

"I had no idea what was going during my tenure or when I left", she insists. I guess I made [the joke] because it was, again, so contrary to the relationship I had with Matt which was respectful, and professional. "I think Savannah and Hoda, and the whole Today show staff took a really, very upsetting and incredibly troubling situation and were able to handle with a lot of dignity and grace, and I really applaud them all". I really admire the way Savannah [Guthrie] and Hoda [Kotb] and the entire Today show staff have handled a very hard situation, ' she added.

Couric told People that the ordeal has been "painful" for her.

"The accounts I've read and heard have been disturbing, distressing and disorienting and it's completely unacceptable that any woman at the Today show experienced this kind of treatment", Couric stated.

While speaking with ET on Saturday, she also addressed her 2012 interview on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, when she quipped that the most annoying thing about Lauer was that he "pinches me on the a** a lot".

NBC News fired Matt Lauer on November 29 as a result of an internal complaint about "inappropriate sexual behavior".

Eight Earthquakes Strike Iran-Iraq Border, Injuring 4
Another one was 5.2 magnitude at about 10:14 a.m. (0714 GMT), with 10 km depth, close to the first near Mandly, the USGS said. Several other earthquakes hit eastern Iran , according to USGS, and were also felt in Iraq's eastern and central provinces.

While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the "Today" host said that it took her a while to come to terms with what her former co-host did. Subsequent reports revealed allegations of harassment and assault. In December, Couric said the claims were "upsetting" but that she would only speak when she was "ready".

The TV journalist anchored the morning show from 1991 to 2006, while Lauer served as co-anchor from1997 to 2017.

Other women also said Lauer behaved inappropriately, with one telling the New York Times that he summoned her to his office in 2001, locked the door, and told her to unbutton her shirt.

In comments made after his initial ouster, Lauer apologized for his past behavior.

"To the people I have hurt, I am truly sorry. As I am writing this I realize the depth of the damage and disappointment I have left behind at home and at NBC", he said.
