Kenya's national carrier set to commence direct flights from Nairobi to New York
Flight time between Nairobi and New York will be reduced from over 22 hours to 15 hours

However, ATW understands Ethiopian is not able to operate eastbound flights to the United States because its Addis Ababa Bole International Airport hub sits at high sea level (7,657 ft. above sea level), which reduces engine performance and requiring requiring a longer takeoff run, potentially exceeding the amount of available runway.

The US is one of Kenya's key trading partners.

The chief executive noted the U.S. is Kenya's top tourist source market, with 95,771 people having visited between January and Oct 2017.

The flight is scheduled to leave JKIA at 10:30pm every day, lasting for a duration of 15 hours - a significant reduction from the current 22 hours required for the journey.

Most American companies have their headquarters in Nairobi and the new development is seen to be a plus to the corporates which include Coca Cola, Rockefeller Foundation, Microsoft, IBM, P&G, Intel, IMF, Wrigley, Honeywell, AIG, Cisco, Google, Cargil among others.

Kenya's tourist marketers said Friday they expect the number of tourists visiting Kenya from the United States to grow as Kenya Airways prepares to launch direct flights to NY in October.
