Wrong woman killed in murder-for-hire plot

The suspects reportedly followed Zengotita-Torres out of the store and to her apartment where they "forcibly put the victim into the back of her own vehicle, and then drove away", Osceola County Sheriff Russ Gibson said.

They say another woman in Osceola County hired two hit men to eliminate a romantic rival.

Quinones-Montes (left) and Ramos-Rivera (right) abducted Zengotita-Torres and took her to an apartment.

Authorities found Janice Zengotita-Torres' body Tuesday in Volusia County.

Zengotita-Torres moved to Osceola County from Puerto Rico with her 14-year-old-son, husband and father about a year ago, investigators said.

A murder-for-hire plot spun out of a love triangle went awry when the wrong woman was kidnapped and killed, authorities said. The victim suffocated from the garbage bags on her head.

Janice Zengotita-Torres, 42, was leaving a Ross Dress for Less near Kissimmee last Sunday night when the suspected contract killers - Alexis Ramos-Rivera, 22, and his girlfriend Glorianmarie Quinones Montes - followed her home and forced Zengotita-Torres into the back of her own auto and drove her to an apartment near The Mall at Millenia in Orlando.

Three suspects were led to jail and charged with her killing.

After following Zengotita-Torres back to her apartment, they forced her into the trunk of her own auto and drove to an apartment near The Mall at Millenia in Orlando.

One station reported that Gibson choked up as he announced the arrests. "This mother, this wife, this daughter - for no reason, at all", Gibson said.

"I get emotional because it just touches me so deeply that one of our citizens was killed in such a manner over a mistaken identification, and in the end it appears to be a lovers' triangle", he said.

Zengotita-Torres worked with the intended victim at Ross Dress for Less (pictured) in Kissimmee and was accidentally targeted.

The suspects then continued to use her ATM card.

"All three confirmed that this was a murder-for-hire and that the victim was mistakenly - again, mistakenly - targeted and murdered as being the person they thought was the intended victim", Gibson said.

All three suspects face first-degree premeditated murder charges, according to records with the Osceola County Corrections.
