AMD is deploying a patch for the second Spectre CPU vulnerability

Information Security is a Priority at AMD

Meltdown and Spectre are two new levels of security vulnerability.

The second, called Spectre, affects chips from Intel, AMD and ARM, and lets hackers potentially trick otherwise error-free applications into giving up secret information.

In early December Intel began distributing firmware updates to try and stop the vulnerabilities. "We are also working directly with data centre customers to discuss the issue", Krzanich added. According to Intel, the company will update every processor in the last five years and we should see updates for older motherboards as well. Written by Daniël Mantione, HPC System Architect at ClusterVision, this white paper addresses some of the implications of Meltdown and Spectre for HPC. "We are also working directly with data center customers to discuss the issue". Now we don't know specifically what the BIOS fixes that Intel, and now AMD, are pushing out do, but, from what Google says, we assume that they disable some forms of speculative execution.

Experts have pointed out that there are not now any malicious programs which exploit these vulnerabilities in circulation, but advised that consumers still need to be very careful about the sites they visit and the software they download. A report from the Wall Street Journal says that some of the patches Intel has released have caused problems of their own.

He said in his Security-First Pledge that Intel is committed to transparency in reporting progress in handling the Google Project Zero exploits.

Nigel Farage admits Brexit vote could be reversed as Remainers gain momentum
Many of them reacted quickly in support of Farage's proposal, expressing confidence about winning the second time around. "They will go on whinging and whining and moaning all the way through this process", he added.

One of Intel's partners told the Wall Street Journal that only informing some of its customers was a bad move, saying that the public has "been given the microcode update but has not been given the important technical information that Intel recommends that you don't use this".

We as an industry probably aren't willing to settle for slower processors that might be vulnerable unless there are proof of concept exploits available. "If the question becomes, 'Is [the pledge] valuable or just brand management?' the answer has to be that it's both", Wenzler told SearchSecurity.

Intel's post came on the heels of a Wall Street Journal story claiming that Intel is teling some customers to delay applying the update to avoid system stability problems.

However, the Rosen Law Firm on Wednesday announced that it had filed a class action suit against Intel, alleging a failure to disclose the design flaw.

"The pledge is likely brand management more than a real thing that will markedly increase security". Since "no mitigation is required" for variant 3, it won't be creating a patch for the vulnerability.
