AT&T being urged to stop its commercial relationship with Huawei

Today, Reuters reported that unidentified USA lawmakers asked AT&T to stop collaborating with Huawei on standards for its next-generation 5G network, and cut ties to Huawei altogether.

These unnamed lawmakers also oppose China Mobile's plans to enter the United States market due to national security concerns, and they're also telling US-based companies that ties to Huawei and/or China Mobile could "hamper their ability to do business with the USA government", the sources said. They're also unhappy with the fact that Cricket Wireless, a subsidiary of AT&T providing pre-paid mobile voice, text, and data, resells Huawei handsets.

A U.S. congressman has introduced a new bill that would ban United States government agencies from purchasing telecoms equipment, devices and services from Chinese vendors Huawei and ZTE.

Neither of the companies offered official statements, but AT&T did tell Reuters that it's yet to make a decision on 5G suppliers. After the failed partnership between Huawei and major carrier AT&T, it appears that another Chinese giant, ZTE, will have problems signing agreements with certain firms in the US. It told Reuters that its equipment is used by 45 of the world's top 50 carriers, and that security for its clients is paramount.

Japanese TV issues false missile alert
The same alert was sent to mobile phone users of NHK's online news distribution service and Twitter. The government's J-Alert: "evacuate inside the building or underground", warned the news flash.

The report follows U.S. Representatives Michael Conaway's and Liz Cheney's introduction of the Defending U.S. Government Communications Act, a bill to bar the U.S. government from using or contracting with Huawei and ZTE, after a House intelligence committee report concluded that their products were insecure for government and military use. In 2012, it investigated Huawei and ZTE over claims that they posed a threat to critical infrastructure. -China Economic and Security Review Commission.

According to Reuters, US authorities are anxious that the wireless carrier's increasingly close ties with the Chinese company - founded in 1987 by Ren Zhengfei, a former engineer in the People's Liberation Army - claiming that it poses "national security concerns".

Additionally AT&T is being asked to oppose plans to let China Mobile enter the US market, calling into question the fate of the telecom's application before the Federal Communications Commission, the report said.

The unnamed lawmakers are also reportedly suggesting to other businesses that working with Chinese firms could inhibit their ability to work with the USA government, according to Reuters. The news follows a recent bill proposal that seeks to ban USA government agencies from contracting with firms that use Huawei hardware.
