Danish police charge more than 1000 in Facebook revenge porn case

Danish police say the clip, which features two 15-year-olds, was picked up by Facebook's moderation staff in the United States after it began to trend on their instant messenger app late last year.

But she said an incident as big as the Danish case was quite rare.

Kjaerside said "young people know it can have huge consequences" to share such material, although he acknowledged they may not know it is a crime.

The suspects could argue they didn't know the couple in the video was under 18-years-old - the minimum age for legally distributed porn - in order to get the child pornography charges dropped.

Although the legal age of consent in Denmark is 15, authorities say the film constitutes the distribution of child pornography.

"We have taken the case very seriously as it has had serious consequences for those involved because of how the material has been spread. We really hope that it is an eye-opener for young people, that they should be careful in the digital world about what you should do".

The Moranbong Troupe, North Korea's Entertainers
A spokesman for Seoul's unification ministry played down the editorial, attributing it to "internal reasons and circumstances". North Korea is planning to send a large delegation to the Olympics in addition to the athletes and orchestra.

Facebook seeks to eradicate revenge porn by rolling out a set of reporting tools that should prevent non-consensual intimate imagery from being posted on its platforms: Facebook, Messenger or Instagram. As a result, a total of 1,004 young people have been charged, 800 of whom are male.

The charges followed an extensive, co-ordinated police effort that dates back to March 2015, when the video was widely shared online and gained national attention as "one of the worst sexual violations recorded on camera in Denmark".

So far 1 004 people across Denmark face preliminary charges - a step short of formal charges.

Revenge porn has also recently become a top priority for Facebook's safety team, who have been working increasingly with local law enforcement on the issue.

The investigation started when Facebook alerted US law enforcement authorities to the sexually explicit material. "Not least because of the large number of people charged", said police inspector Lau Thygesen.
