Qatari fighter jets intercept UAE commercial plane

Qatar had complained to the Montreal-based International Civil Aviation Organization about the boycotting nations cutting off its air routes, forcing the carrier to take longer flights through Iran and Turkey.

The second incident, related to an Etihad plane flying from Abu Dhabi to Bahrain (EY23b) is being investigated, the CAA said.

Last week, Qatar announced it had filed a complaint with the UN Security Council regarding the alleged breach of its sovereign airspace late last month by a UAE military aircraft - a claim denied by Abu Dhabi.

"Qatari fighter jets intercept an Emirati civilian aircraft during a routine flight to Manama in a flagrant threat to civil aviation safety and in a clear violation of global law", the UAE General Authority of Civil Aviation said.

The UAE authority added that it regards this incident "as a serious and renewed breach of global conventions and the safety of civil aircraft traffic".

Qatar has denied the charges and accused the four countries of trying to make it conform to their foreign policy positions.

A White House statement on the call with Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani said on Monday that Trump praised Qatar for "being one of the few countries to move forward on a bilateral memorandum of understanding" against funding terrorism.

The Gulf feud has divided the GCC, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE signing their own bilateral agreement late past year.

After reports that she was romantically involved with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair while still married to Mr. He added that she "has absolutely no knowledge of any garden projects funded by the Chinese government".

Lolwa al-Khater, spokeswoman for Qatar's foreign ministry, said Doha "intends to take legal action" over the latest alleged violation Sunday of its airspace.

"The flight was a regular, scheduled service on a known flight-path that met all the required and internationally recognized approvals and permits".

The UAE will file a complaint against Qatar at the United Nations aviation agency on Tuesday after Qatari jets intercepted two UAE civilian aircraft.

UAE local media are reporting that the flight involved was the EK837 travelling between Dubai and Bahrain.

Suwaidi declined to name the airlines operating the two flights, which he said had been forced to delay their descent into Bahrain International Airport as Qatari fighter jets came within little more than three kilometres (two miles).

Qatar is located in the Gulf, between Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates and across the Gulf waters from Iran.

Saif Al-Thani, a Qatari government spokesman, denied the UAE's claim on Twitter, calling it "completely untrue". However, Pickart cautioned that US forces don't routinely monitor the flights and operations of the Qatari air force.

It wasn't clear from the footage at what distance the fighter jets allegedly passed the Emirates flight, but Bahrain previously described the distance as being 3.2 kilometres (2 miles).
