Gov. Cuomo says state will look into impact of legal marijuana

Lawmakers face an April 1 deadline to approve a state budget plan.

John J. Flanagan, the Republican leader of the Senate, praised elements of Mr. Cuomo's plan, including a 3 percent increase in education funding, the largest chunk of state spending.

Others who disagreed with some of the governor's proposals expressed themselves in a more polite manner.

"Our state has continuously ranked among the worst states in the country when it comes to property taxes", Stec said.

Peoples-Stokes believes NY will remain committed to upstate investment.

"Over the next few months, Senate Republicans will be leading the charge to make NY more affordable for its residents and businesses". The new tax would apply to vendors outside of NY that sell products to state residents.

"They want to sell to a for-profit or convert".

"Don't lose the forest for the trees because the main issue in the budget is not the budget", Cuomo told lawmakers on Tuesday.

"Direct care workers work with the most vulnerable of our population every day", she said.

Relieving localities of the growth in Medicaid programs to help counties stay within property tax caps.

Beware risky fads: kids are eating Tide Pods
In a Twitter post last week, Tide warned that its detergent pods should be used for doing laundry and "nothing else". Well, they're not - OK, they sort of are, but it's a joke, people (albeit a potentially unsafe one).

"There are many reasons to want to protect and preserve our lakes, especially the ones that are tourist draws and the ones that people live on but this funding and the acknowledgement from the state is encouraging", Assemblyman Stec said.

He also took a jab at New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio by saying that the city needed to pay half of the $836 million cost for immediate fixes to the MTA, which de Blasio has adamantly refused to do. "We must also improve the climate for businesses by eliminating burdensome and costly regulations that make it hard for them to grow and create jobs". I am encouraged by the Governor's statements to increase aid to our high needs school districts.

"I have no doubt this is a fight for New York's future", Cuomo said.

Cuomo pointed out that NY sends $48 billion more in revenues to the federal government than it receives back. The deduction had been especially popular in high-tax states like NY, where many homeowners now face large increases in their federal tax bills. With the right tax and budget policies, we could ensure that vital housing programs are funded and that truly affordable housing gets built for low income people. "If the Governor considers the Federal tax plan an attack on NY and tantamount to a giant tax increase, what then, would he call this?" He is not making any cuts to health care, but his budget does assume that President Donald Trump and Congress eventually will fund the Child Health Plus and the Disproportionate Share Hospital programs again. Out-year budget gaps and shrinking statutory debt capacity are also growing concerns.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Tuesday presented his budget message to members of the state legislature, and it includes not only a billion dollars in additional revenue, but also calls for a radical change in the state income tax code.

"The truth is that more than 85 percent of New Yorkers and small businesses will get the benefit of a tax cut under the new federal tax plan, and if the Governor actually cut state taxes instead of raising them, NY could experience the kind of economic resurgence happening at the national level".

To raise new revenue, Cuomo called for extending the state sales tax on transactions made on such internet sites as Amazon Marketplace and Etsy. People and employers are leaving NY at a record pace because of a lack of economic opportunity and a poor business climate.

We don't need the governor to deliver an election-year message Wednesday. Oppressive taxes, a high cost of living, and financial pressures that drive residents away are not new issues.

"In the coming weeks, my office will thoroughly review the Executive Budget, examine both the near-term and long-term impact of these proposals and provide a detailed analysis".
