Trump Wants Mexico to Pay for Border Wall 'Directly or Indirectly'

President Donald Trump has tasked chief of staff John Kelly with shepherding his immigration proposals through Congres

"The Wall will be paid for, directly or indirectly, or through longer term reimbursement, by Mexico, which has a ridiculous USD 71 billion-dollar trade surplus with the US".

Donald Trump indicated his neighbours will have to stump up for the new border security - although he conceded it may pay "indirectly" in the form of a new trade agreement.

Kelly's comments followed reports that in a meeting Wednesday, he told Democratic lawmakers that some of Trump's positions as a candidate on the border wall were "uninformed", sources told CNN.

"One thing is to campaign, another thing is to govern".

Kelly had earlier said the president's views on a number of issues including wall and his South Asia policy has evolved.

Trump evolves in the way he sees things, but campaigns and the government are different, sentenced Kelly.

Democrats have insinuated that they are prepared to force a government shutdown if Republicans do not extend the Obama-era Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals Program, which protects some 700,000 immigrants who entered the country illegally as children. Some expect Trump to withdraw from the deal entirely. "I am just going to say that we are working it out".

But Kelly seemed unimpressed by the deal, attendees said, telling the group that Graham and Durbin have always agreed on immigration matters.

Kelly's comments openly acknowledged the difference between campaign promises and governing, and even suggested that Trump needed to be educated on the subject.

Lawmakers who attended the meeting on Wednesday described Mr. Kelly's remarks.

In addition, Pai's move to repeal the rules included an unlawful preemption of state and local regulations, Schneiderman said . The states argue that the FCC chairman Ajit Pai's decision is based on a flawed interpretation of the Telecommunications Act.

In both cases he noted that Mexico, in Kelley's view, will not pay directly for border wall, that dreamers have a chance to stay in United States and that president was "misinformed" in polls and "has evolved" on issues of Migration.

"We don't need a 2,000 mile wall". "As I understand it, they have the votes and they are fairly confident".

And negotiations on a deal are still unsettled, if not downright chaotic - in large part because Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is explicitly saying they can only bring a bill to the floor of the Senate "as soon as we figure out what [the president] is for".

Tillerson is responding to questions about his agency's preparations for what to do if Congress fails to pass a stopgap spending measure.

"Concrete wall is not a realistic solution in many places", Kelly said, noting that the physical features of portions of the border would make it challenging to construct a wall along the 2,100-mile stretch between the USA and Mexico. Supporters at his rallies often chanted, "Build that wall".

"U.S. taxpayers will pay full 100 per cent the cost of that wall, which is a waste of money [and] a waste of time and I'm sure US taxpayers don't want to pay for that".

Kelly added that Trump would approve of a DACA deal if it includes limits on chain migration to include only the nuclear family.

Trump also says he doesn't want to see a government shutdown - and the shutdown deadline is fast approaching.

Trump is using the protection of the DACA immigration program as a bargaining chip to get funding for the wall.
